About Us
GWLAD is a unique and innovative partnership that works across rural areas of north Wales and is made up of education providers, community agencies, voluntary agencies and employers. The GWLAD partnership is drawn form The School of Lifelong Learning, Bangor University with CAIS, Medrwn Môn, Stonewall Cymru, Black Environment Network (BEN), The Welsh Language Board, Chwarae Teg, The Open University, and Alfred McAlpine Slate Ltd.
The aim of the GWLAD Development Partnership is to explore and provide opportunities for people living in rural areas of north Wales to gain access to education, training and employment. We will achieve this by developing and testing innovative and empowering approaches to lifelong learning in rural areas.
The GWLAD partnership will be carrying out research into the barriers faced by people accessing education and training opportunities in rural areas focusing particularly on groups who have frequently been excluded from opportunities.
Our Activities Include:
Developing and testing new ways of delivering learning in rural areas.
Developing activities to encourage community based learning, guidance and training.
Working with voluntary groups, private sector and other agencies to develop ways of retaining people in employment and helping people into employment.
Delivering Equality and Diversity training across the GWLAD partnership.
Work with transnational partners to share, develop and disseminate examples of good practice.
The partnership is funded through the EQUAL programme. EQUAL is the European Union's Community Initiative Programme, which aims to promote new ways of combating all forms of discrimination and inequalities in relation to the labour market. EQUAL also includes action to help the social and vocational integration of asylum seekers.
REAL
Ready for European Learning
The GWLAD Development Partnership is working with a transnational partnership - REAL - with colleagues in Belgium, France and the Czech Republic.
The common interests of this transnational partnership centre on innovative approaches to accessing learning and training. These include the development of e-learning methodologies, support for learning, and the dissemination of opportunities to groups who face barriers to traditional forms of learning especially in rural communities.
