Black Environment Network (BEN) held an event on December 7th to launch their new publications which share the good practice from two European EQUAL projects.  The event was held at the offices of Countryside Council for Wales who also funded the work.  The launch was well attended by many members of local ethnic communities and staff from environmental and heritage organisations who have been working together for the last two years.

The bright and well-illustrated booklets are simply written and aim to promote to the ethnic communities of Wales, the opportunities for enjoyment and employment in the environment and heritage sectors which play such a large part in the Welsh economy.  ‘Fun and Learning in the Environment’ shows what the various organisations that look after our built and natural environments  offer to visitors.   ‘Working Together to increase Employment’ highlights many ways that activities on sites can be used to stimulate cultural expression and interest ethnic groups in volunteering and other opportunities that lead to paid work in the sectors.

Both booklets are available from Black Environment Network’s UK Office in Llanberis, telephone 01286 870715.
